Compact and highly dense block but also very diverse in building typology. Is there any building regulation for block layout guidelines? Is it not important in Hong Kong? Or is it not necessary in Hong Kong?
The integral relationship between density, development control, ownership, architecture and communal space create a very interesting character within typical blocks in Hong Kong central. This typology contains a heterogeneous mix of functions, private, communal and public spaces that produces an unprecedented social dynamism. A number of buildings were built duing the period 1959 and 1979, which was the period of loose planning controls. The sheer quantity of this typology means the impact of change would be tremendous.
So all the mix and match of buildings, with different heights and styles are interweaving within the block, with the block sustained by an evolving series of functions including organic restaurants, bars, small gallery, and cafes so all different culture and societies are interact to create new but sustainable cultural landscape.
