Professor Sunny Choi has been selected as a Winner of the Asia Pacific Cultural and Creative Industry Awards (APCIA) 2025, a distinguished regional recognition honoring impactful contributions across design, culture, and creative research. The award acknowledges her pioneering immersive exhibition in London, celebrated for its integration of psychology, spatial design, artificial intelligence, and neuroscience into a cohesive experiential framework.
Her work offers a forward-looking model for how design can operate as both scientific inquiry and cultural expression. By merging empirical research methods with spatial storytelling, the exhibition demonstrates how built environments can shape cognition, emotion, and social connection. This cross-disciplinary approach has been highlighted by several academic and design institutions as a transformative example of evidence-based creative practice.
The APCIA organization, committed to advancing cultural and creative development across the Asia Pacific region, formally announced the award in its official letter of recognition. The committee praised Professor Choi for standing out among an extensive pool of candidates and described her achievement as “well-deserved” given the depth and originality of her contribution.
The award ceremony for the 9th Hong Kong Cultural and Creative Industry Awards 2025 took place on 23 October 2025 at the Cyberport Conference Centre in Hong Kong. Award recipients have been invited to attend and share a brief reflection on their contributions to the cultural and creative industries.
This recognition further affirms Professor Choi’s leadership in advancing design research at the intersection of cognition, technology, and cultural production. Through her work at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Choi-Comer Asia Limited, she continues to build bridges between scientific evidence and creative practice, demonstrating how rigorous research can elevate design’s societal relevance.
