Shaping Cities, Spaces, and Experiences for People
What is Human-Centered Design?
Human-Centered Design (HCD) is an interdisciplinary approach that places human needs, behaviors, and experiences at the core of design and urban development. At The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), we integrate research, technology, and design innovation to create livable, sustainable, and inclusive urban environments.
Our Vision
We believe that cities and spaces should evolve with people’s well-being at their heart. Our research and projects focus on designing environments that are:
– Inclusive – Prioritizing accessibility, equity, and diverse community needs.
– Sustainable – Responding to climate challenges and fostering resilient urban ecosystems.
– Experiential – Enhancing spatial perception, wayfinding, and engagement in public spaces.
Led by Dr. Sunny Choi, an expert in Urban Design, Environmental Design, and Spatial Cognition, our research aligns with global challenges and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3, SDG 11, SDG 13, SDG 15
